This is part of an occasional series by the Sanpete Country Travel and Utah Heritage Highway 89 Alliance on the people and places along U.S. Highway 89.

Mountain Man Rendezvous, Other Family Events Featured During Fourth of July Weekend in Sanpete County.

Sanpete County is gearing up for another amazing series of Independence Day celebrations in its heritage cities and towns.

Mt. Pleasant City will hold “Hub City Days” celebrations starting on July 1 and continuing through Monday, July 4. The annual event honors Mt. Pleasant as being the “Hub City” of Sanpete County. It will include a Mountain Man Rendezvous with muzzle-loader shootouts, exhibits, trading, displays, Dutch-oven cook offs, and more; a rodeo; parades; games; fireworks and other events.

The festivities get underway Friday, July 1, with a 7 p.m. local talent rodeo jackpot fun night at the rodeo grounds. The mountain man rendezvous also beings Friday night and many participants will camp out in authentic teepees and wall tents during the three-day event, which is expected to attract shooters and traders from throughout Utah and parts of the United States.

Saturday, July 2, the rendezvous continues and there will be a golf tournament starting at 8 a.m.. At 7 p.m., there will be a “Muttin Bustin’” rodeo followed by the Clegg Championship Rodeo at 8 p.m. at the rodeo grounds. Sunday’s highlights include a 7 p.m. Freedom Rally at the North Sanpete High School.

The July 4th holiday in Mt. Pleasant begins with a 7 a.m. fun walk/run, with proceeds going to the Lung Cancer Foundation and an IHC Hospital Foundation breakfast in the city park. The Children’s Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the Mammoth parade starts at 11:30, followed by a lunch in the city park sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. and run throughout the day and evening. The mountain man rendezvous also continues throughout the day. A fireworks show will begin at 10 p.m. Hub Days continues Saturday, July 9 with a morning co-ed softball at North Sanpete County High School. For general information, call Mt. Gunnison has chosen the theme “Let Freedom Ring” for its Fourth of July activities. They begin Friday, July 1, at 6 p.m. in the city park with a roast beef dinner, and a 7:30 p.m. auction by the Gunnison Fire department, followed by fireworks at dusk and a youth city dance after the fireworks. On Saturday, there will be a 7 a.m. flag ceremony followed by an American Legion breakfast. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. and activities will be held in the city park all day, including games, concessions, book sales, art shows, swimming, skateboarding and more. Sunday, July 3, a patriotic fireside will be held at 7 p.m. For more information, call 435-528-3842.

Celebrations in Moroni begin on June 25 with 10 a.m. bike races for children at the city’s recreational park. On June 28, there will be a 6:30 p.m. youth talent show at the North Sanpete Middle school. July 1, a youth dance will be held at 9 p.m. at the Moroni City tennis courts. July 2 highlights include a co-ed softball tournament and a 5 p.m. “Mudd Boggs” at the city arena.

Moroni’s July 4 celebrations begin with a flag ceremony and “fun run” at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast in the city park from 7 to 9 a.m. “Airplane ping pong” begins at 9:45 a.m. with the dropping of hundreds of prizes along the parade route. The parade starts at 10 a.m., followed by a carnival, crafts, booths, a car show and other activities in the park from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be a lunch at noon sponsored by Norbest Turkey and the Moroni Feed Company, a family fun trap shoot at 1 p.m., and a 5 p.m. barbecue. At 7:30 p.m., there will be a pre-fireworks variety show, with fireworks at 10 p.m.

Manti will celebrate the Fourth of July with at 6 a.m. breakfast and events and activities held throughout the day. Fireworks will be held at dark.
